Today's Featured Grade 12 Grad: Dreyden Agawa

Dreyden is a member of Brunswick House First Nation and is very proud of his Indigenous culture! Throughout his high school career, he has been involved in school sports, school powwows and is a founding member of the school’s Northern Indigenous Youth Council. Dreyden was an active member of the Basketball, Badminton, Soccer and Volleyball teams. His love for Basketball especially was evident throughout high school. He was often seen taking practice shots daily during the lunch hour. When not playing sports, he participated in drumming with younger students and was a member of the host drum group at our school’s PowWow. Dreyden was among the first group of students at Chapleau High School to learn Ojibwe through a language course offered at the school. Dreyden also participated in a Student Voice Forum where he and others shared their ideas about Indigenous ways of learning and school climate.

Dreyden always demonstrated and shared his Ojibwe language and culture with others in our K-12 school. His leadership was always evident with the way he cared for and taught younger students. The Indigenous knowledge Dreyden shared with staff and students was so valuable to our school culture.
